The Online World resources handbook

Definition of services

Level 1: Register as an online user of the handbook

You use the online version somewhere on the web, and want to send a token of thanks to the author. By sending $25 to support maintenance of the handbook, you're telling more than one thousand words. Appreciated!

Level 2: Receive updated versions on disk six times/year

Keep the handbook on your harddisk as a navigation resource. Read it offline with your browser, or when connected to the Internet. This is fast! You can have the handbook mailed to you on either 1.44 MB MS-DOS, or 1.44MB Macintosh diskettes.
This option excels if you also use tools like the AltaVista Discovery to index local web pages  on your harddisk.
Example: Store the handbook in a directory called TOW. Search the pages with Discovery using search terms like

+location:TOW +[search term1]

Replace "[search term]" with the word or name you are looking for. For example, use "+location:TOW +agora" to find all chapter in which the name "Agora" appears. Click at the hits on the resulting list of pages, and browse them to find the name Agora highlighted for easy reference.

The handbook is not distributed in ascii format any more as converting html to ascii has become so easy with tools like the MS-DOS freeware program VIEWHTML (click here to download - just 76 KB)
